As a Geomatics Engineer at GeoEnergy you are responsible for the
coordinate reference systems, positioning data and GIS deliverables that our
geoscientists, project managers and clients all depend on. Done right, a 3D survey ties
to the well within centimetres. Done wrong, nobody finds out until the bit is already in
the ground.
About GeoEnergy
GeoEnergy Petroleum Services delivers subsurface, data and digital services to national
and international operators across the Middle East and Africa. Our Geomatics team sits
inside Service Delivery, alongside the Upstream Technical Center and the Digital
Transformation Center, and works on exploration and development projects from first
acquisition through to interpretation.
What you will do
- Build and audit coordinate reference systems, datums and projections for exploration
and development projects, and document every transformation so that it can be
reproduced years later
- Load, QC and correct seismic navigation and positioning data, and resolve mis-ties
before they ever reach interpretation
- Produce the GIS deliverables the business runs on: concession and lease maps, well
and seismic base maps, infrastructure and HSE layers
- Verify third-party survey data against contract specification and raise
non-conformances with the contractor
- Maintain the corporate spatial database so every project draws on one version of the
truth
- Support operations with pre-plot and post-plot positioning, and go to site when a
survey needs eyes on the ground
- Work directly with geoscientists, the PMO and clients. You will be asked to explain
your numbers, not only to deliver them
What you will work with
ArcGIS and QGIS, Petrel, the EPSG registry and coordinate transformation tools, GNSS
post-processing, AutoCAD, SQL and Python for automation, and our OSDU-aligned data
platform.
Requirements
Must have
- BSc in Surveying, Geomatics, Geodesy, Civil Engineering, Geology or Geophysics
- 3+ years in geomatics or survey work, at least one of them in oil and gas
- Demonstrable command of coordinate reference systems, datum transformations and map
projections. This is assessed at interview
- Working English, spoken and written, for client-facing work
Nice to have
- Seismic navigation and positioning data (P1 and P6 formats), and survey QC against
IOGP specifications
- Python or SQL for automating spatial workflows
- Field survey experience on land seismic or drilling operations
- Willing to travel within the Middle East and Africa
